The Hebrew University on Mount Scopus was established in 1925. Apart from the study and research buildings, the campus also has a special botanical garden, ancient burial caves and an outdoor amphitheatre.
In the 19 years between 5708 (1948) and 5727 (1967), the University was an Israeli enclave within Jordanian territory and was populated by "policemen", who stayed there for two-week shifts. Studies took place during these years at the Givat Ram Campus in the west of the city. After the Six Day War, the Administration and most of the faculties returned to the campus on Mount Scopus.
